Why we start everyone on lino
Before screen printing, before etching: a block of lino, a gouge and a spoon teach you how a print works.

New members always ask for screen printing first. We send them to the lino bench, and almost all of them thank us later. Lino teaches the one rule every print process shares: what you cut away stays white.
What you need
- A block of grey lino, A6 is plenty
- A V-gouge and a U-gouge
- Water-based block ink and a roller
- A wooden spoon for burnishing, no press needed
Our Christmas card workshop uses exactly this kit, and the shop sells it as a starter set.
